# Importing loyalty data from another loyalty program

If you are switching from another loyalty program to BLOY, you can import your existing customer loyalty data into BLOY to keep your transition smooth.

Currently, BLOY supports importing:
* Customer points
* VIP tiers
This helps you continue your loyalty program without asking customers to start over from zero.

## Before you start

Before importing your data, please prepare a CSV file with the required customer information.
BLOY uses the customer’s email address to match imported data with the correct customer account. Please make sure the email addresses in your CSV file match the customer emails in your Shopify store.

## What you can import
### Import points

Use this option when you want to import customer point balances from another loyalty app or an existing loyalty system.
Your CSV file should include:
* `email`
* `points`

You can choose how the imported points should be applied:

**Reset existing customer balance**
This will replace the customer’s current BLOY point balance with the value in your CSV file.

Example:
Customer currently has 100 points in BLOY.
Your CSV file shows 500 points.
After import, the customer will have 500 points.

**Add points to existing customer balance**
This will add the imported points on top of the customer’s current BLOY point balance.

Example:
Customer currently has 100 points in BLOY.
Your CSV file shows 500 points.
After import, the customer will have 600 points.

### Import VIP tier

Use this option when you want to import or update customer VIP tiers.
Your CSV file should include:
* `email`
* `tier`
When importing VIP tiers, BLOY will update the customer’s tier based on your CSV file.

## How to import customers
### Step 1: Go to the Customers page

From your BLOY admin, go to **Customers**.
At the top right of the page, click **Import customers**.

### Step 3: Choose how points should be applied

If you choose **Import points**, select one of the following options:
* **Reset existing customer balance**
* **Add points to existing customer balance**
Choose **Reset existing customer balance** if you want the imported file to become the customer’s final point balance.
Choose **Add points to existing customer balance** if you want to add the imported points on top of the customer’s current BLOY balance.

### Step 4: Upload your CSV file

Upload your CSV file in the upload box.
BLOY accepts **CSV files only**.
You can click **Download sample file** to check the required format before preparing your own file.

### Step 5: Add an internal reason or customer note

Before importing, you can add:
**Reason for adjustment**
This is optional and visible for internal use only. It helps your team understand why the points or tiers were imported.
Example:
`Migrated points from previous loyalty app`

**Note for customers**
This is optional and can be shown to customers in their loyalty activity.
Example:
`Points migrated from our previous rewards program`

### Step 6: Click Import

After uploading your CSV file and reviewing the settings, click **Import**.
Once the import is complete, check a few customer records to make sure the data was imported correctly.

## After the import

After importing customer data, we recommend checking:
* Whether point balances match your CSV file
* Whether VIP tiers were updated correctly
* Whether customer emails were matched correctly
* Whether the customer activity note appears as expected, if you added one
This helps make sure your loyalty data is ready before announcing the migration to customers.

## Troubleshooting
### The Import button is disabled

Please check that:
* A valid CSV file has been uploaded
* You selected the correct import action
* Your file follows the required format

### Some customers were not updated

This usually happens when the email address in the CSV file does not match an existing customer in your Shopify store or BLOY customer list.
Please check the email format and try again.

### The points are not what I expected

Please confirm which import option you selected:
* **Reset existing customer balance** replaces the current point balance.
* **Add points to existing customer balance** adds the imported points to the current balance.
