How order limits and overage charges work
How order limits and overage charges work
Each BLOY plan includes a monthly order limit. When you go over that limit, the app automatically charges extra fees in 100-order packs, billed through Shopify Billing in USD, and your order count resets at the start of the next billing month.
What is the monthly order limit?
- The monthly order limit is the maximum number of orders your Points Program can process in a given month, based on your current plan. BLOY counts an order when it is placed, and counting starts from the moment your Points Program status becomes Active.
- BLOY tracks all orders that flow into your Shopify orders, regardless of channel or source. Cancellations and refunds do not reduce your monthly count.
The 5 states of the order progress bar
The progress bar in your Dashboard shows 5 states based on how many orders you have used against your plan quota.
State | Badge shown | What happens | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Trial (paid plan) | Green, Available | Orders are counted but do not count toward quota. Counting starts only after the trial ends. | 14 days |
Normal (under 70%) | Green, Available | The Points Program runs normally, no warning shown. | |
Reaches 70% of quota | Yellow, Almost full | Shows an Estimated Additional Charge (an estimate, not yet charged). Automatic email sent to the merchant. | Automatic email |
Reaches 100% of quota | Red, Full | Estimated Additional Charge updates in real time. Automatic email sent to the merchant. The app keeps running. | Automatic email |
Over 100% (Over limit) | Red, Over limit | Estimated Additional Charge becomes an Additional amount charged (actually charged). The app keeps running and adds a fee per 100 orders. | Per 100 orders over |
Reaches the additional orders cap (15 packs ~ 1500 orders) | Red, Over limit with banner | The app stops adding charges. Way to earn from orders and Way to redeem are both paused. A warning banner is shown. | Until renewal |
How the Estimated Additional Charge is calculated
Once orders reach 70% of quota or higher, the Dashboard shows a projected fee called the Estimated Additional Charge. This is not an amount that has actually been charged. It is an estimate based on your current order pace.
The formula works as follows:
- ET (Estimated monthly orders) = Current order count ÷ Days elapsed × 30
- Additional packs needed = round up [(ET − limit quota) ÷ 100]
- Estimated Additional Charge = Number of packs × the plan's overage rate
Worked example:
A merchant on Launch (500 orders/month) has placed 200 orders after 7 days.
- ET = 200 ÷ 7 × 30 = 857 orders
- Additional packs needed = round up [(857 − 500) ÷ 100] = 4 packs
- Estimated Additional Charge = 4 × $15/month = $60/month
Note:
- Once the actual limit is exceeded, the Estimated Additional Charge becomes an Additional amount charged, which is a real charge processed through Shopify Billing.
How charges work once the limit is actually exceeded
When your order count exceeds the quota, the following applies:
- The app charges fees automatically; the merchant does not need to approve anything.
- Every 100 orders over the limit equals 1 pack, charged at the plan's overage rate.
- Overage rates by plan: Free has no overage, Launch is $15/month per pack, Growth is $12/month per pack, and Unlimited is $10/month per pack.
- Additional charges apply until you reach the cap of 15 packs (1,500 orders).
Example on Launch (500 orders/month)
- Orders 501 to 600: an additional $15/month
- Orders 601 to 700: another additional $15/month
What happens on Free at 200 orders
Free has no overage mechanism. Once it reaches 200 orders in a month, the system will:
- Pause Way to earn and Way to redeem for all orders placed after that point.
- Display the in-app message: "Ways to redeem and point-earning from orders are paused. Upgrade for more orders."
- Resume normal activity automatically when the new billing month starts.
Monthly reset
- At the end of each billing cycle, the order counter resets to 0 and the Dashboard status returns to Available. This happens automatically. Merchants do not need to take any action.
- Your order count resets on the 1st day of each month. For merchants who installed BLOY before July 1, 2026, this monthly billing cycle started on July 1, 2026.
- Check Monthly Order Usage in the Dashboard weekly, especially during high-volume seasons.
- If the status changes to Almost full, consider upgrading your plan before reaching 100% of quota to avoid overage charges.
- Keep an eye on automatic system emails, since they are the best signal that you are close to or have exceeded your quota.
- If you regularly exceed your current plan's limit, compare your cumulative overage cost against the cost of upgrading to find the more cost-effective option.
Troubleshooting
- Why do I see an Estimated Additional Charge even though I have not gone over my limit? The Estimated Additional Charge is a projection, not a real charge. It appears once orders reach 70% of quota or higher, based on your current order pace, so you can plan ahead before the limit is actually reached.
- The app is paused. What do I need to do? When the app shows the Over limit banner with a paused state, Way to earn and Way to redeem stop working until the new billing cycle begins. You can upgrade your plan immediately to restore activity sooner, or wait for the renewal date for the system to reset automatically.
